Again, the criteria I've used to determine which players fall into the category of "underrated" is the following. I've fired up the official FM17 pre-game editor and filtered all the world class players, the ones with 160 current ability and higher and did my analysis.
Most of the players on mine most underrated list don't even have current ability of 160 or are just above that mark. Not only that, but their potential ability is also not reflecting their potential ability in real life.
All the players on this list are here based on my sole opinion. You are free to agree or disagree if you think that some players do or do not have a place among these six.
So here is, in mine humble opinion, six most underrated players in Football Manager 2017.

#6 Ivan Perisic - Inter
At number six is a Croat currently playing for Inter, Ivan Perisic. He is arguably the best Croatian player at the moment, yet his attributes are extremely low. Only his acceleration is 16, which by FM standard means it is an excellent trait. That is only one attribute out of 36! This player deserves better attributes for sure.

#5 Giorgio Chiellini - Juventus
The Italian has been the backbone of Juventus and Italy for over a decade, yet he's not one of the best defenders in the game. He is not even in the top 10 defenders according to FM17. Players who have retrained to DC position, like Mascherano and Martinez, have better stats and higher current and potential ability than Chiellini. In mine opinion, he should be in the top 5 central defenders in the game.

#4 Thibaut Courtois - Chelsea
Regarded by many as one of the best goalkeepers in the world, Thibaut Courtois is not even in the top 3 goalkeepers in English Premier League and barely made it into top 10 goalies in the game. Claudio Bravo is ranked higher than the Belgian, and this just seems wrong. He did have a poor season last year, mostly due to his injury, but then again the whole Chelsea team was in a disastrous form.

#3 Héctor Bellerín - Arsenal
Even thou he is only 21, and on his way to becoming one of the best right wing backs in the game, Bellerín's attributes are low if you ask me. I'm not a supporter of Arsenal whatsoever, but I do think that the Spaniard should have better stats than given to him by Sports Interactive team. You might believe that he will develop in the future, but the truth is he is currently playing close to his full potential. At least they got his pace and acceleration on point.

#2 Dimitri Payet - West Ham
Also playing close to his full potential is Dimitri Payet. Frenchman was one of the biggest discoveries last season in the Premier League and is most responsible for the excellent results that West Ham achieved last season. If you add to this the fact that he also led French national team to the finals of the European Championship, you have to wonder if his stats aren't a little bit too low for a player of his calibre.

#1 Riyad Mahrez - Leicester
What you see is what you get from the Algerian that made history with Leicester last season. His attributes can only go backwards, as he is playing at his full potential. He is only 25, and you would expect that SI team would give him a higher potential ability, but they seem to think that Mahrez reached his peak and can't develop any further, I beg to differ.
