We're delighted that Football Manager 2020 is going to be a @GoogleStadia launch title 🎮— Football Manager (@FootballManager) June 6, 2019
We're not ready to reveal further details on the #Stadia or Steam release but keep an eye on https://t.co/fgSVoTm6jy and FM socials for updates in Aug and Sept. https://t.co/oE7IEfPVaA
What is Google Stadia
Google Stadia, announced in March, is a streaming platform designed to let you play games without a high-end console or computer. If it works as promised, it’ll let you plug a Chromecast into your television and access games through the cloud, no hardware required. The base subscription price is $10/month, with a free version planned for next year, and a Founder’s Edition bundle available for $130 this November when Stadia launches.
It’ll be a slow rollout, Google says—you’ll need that Founder’s Edition to play in 2019—the platform won’t open up further until 2020. You won’t be able to subscribe to the standard Stadia Pro subscription until next year, either.
Football Manager 2020 on Google Stadia
A game like Football Manager is primed to reap the benefits of this deal.
Even if a user has bad latency (amount of time it takes to send information from one point to the next), it won't affect Football Manager 2020 as much as FPS games. The amount of people using ultrabooks nowadays is just so much, and FM does load quite slowly on them. You would not be able to enjoy the full game on ultrabooks with many leagues loaded.
With FM20 on Google Stadia platform, the processing power is performed by Google's data center. This will allow users to load up ten leagues easily while zooming by the processing. This processing power would also help with graphics for the 3D match engine etc.
Another good thing is that Sports Interactive would no longer need to care about the end users PC capabilities, and even if there are some small lags, it wouldn't even affect the gameplay for FM2020. It's not like an FPS game.
Streaming regular (full) version of FM20 on your other devices
Playing the regular (full) version of Football Manager is only available to play on PC right now.
Other alternative versions that can be accessed on Tablets and Phones, but they struggle to reach the heights of FM on PC.
But with the launch of Stadia, this could all change and make it possible to experience Football Manager on the small screen.
Because it’s a streaming service, FM gamers will be able to stream whatever League setup they want straight to their compatible phone or tablet.
Outdated, basic laptops welcomed
It would also make it possible to play the game on a basic laptop, allowing those who have been left behind to rejoin their fellow Football Manager enthusiasts.
The drawbacks will be that Google Stadia will be launching its premium Founder’s Edition first in November 2019,
This includes 4K gaming support, a Pro subscription, a Chromecast Ultra a buddy subscription and a Google Stadia controller.
None of which will really be needed to enjoy Football Manager at its best. It won’t be until 2020 when gamers can access Stadia for free and buy games separately.
Stadia launch
At launch, Stadia will be available in 14 countries through the Founder’s Edition: US, Canada, UK, Ireland, France, Germany, Italy, Spain, Netherlands, Belgium, Denmark, Sweden, Norway, and Finland.
Google says more regions will be added starting in 2020.
