While this makes for great matches in the Champions League, national leagues become dull and unappealing, it’s time to end this gentrification of football and give the small guy a fighting chance. If you’re willing to take up this challenge and knock off their high horse those who had confiscated the national title, here are 5 league title streaks to end in FM20.
1. Bayern Munchen – German Bundesliga
With 7 consecutive titles under their belt, the Bavarian giants are not going to surrender a new title too easily. They shown as much last season, when Dortmund held the top spot for 21 rounds (out of 34), but eventually lost it after Bayern smashed them 5-0 in the 28th round.
In FM20, Dortmund, the last club to win the Bundesliga before Bayern’s streak, would be of course the obvious choice to end Bayern dominance, having a young and talented squad and good finances. The up and commers RB Leipzig could be another contender. Alternatively, you could go for Leverkusen, Gladbach or Wolfsburg, or if you want to try a fallen giant challenge go for former champions Schalke, Bremen, Koln or Hertha Berlin.
2. Juventus – Italian Serie A
The Old Lady has won the previous 8 seasons of the Serie A, the longest run in Italian football. Only Roma and Napoli have mounted serious challenges in recent years, so the two clubs should be your first options if you want to try your hand at this.
The Milan clubs, Inter and AC Milan, are also showing signs of recovery this season, after years of mediocrity, with big investments being made again in the capital of Lombardy, so if you think the Scudetto looks good on striped shirts, you should try putting it on blue and black or red and black, instead of Juve’s white and black.
3. Celtic – Scottish Premiership
After the bankruptcy of its main rival, Rangers, Celtic has maintained a tight grip on the Scottish title, winning the last 8 editions. But The Gers are back with a vengeance, managing last season to come in second place for the first time since 2011-2012. Rangers also hold the record of Scottish titles with 54, but Celtic are rapidly closing the gap reaching 50 at the end of last season.
It’s up to you to act quickly and seize another title for Rangers, before Celtic becomes the most successful club in Scottish football. Aberdeen, the last club except Celtic and Rangers to win the title, can also be a fun challenge, having enjoyed a good spell in recent years, coming in second place for four seasons.
4. Red Bull Salzburg – Austrian Bundesliga

Six consecutive titles were won Red Bull Salzburg in recent years, bringing their tally to 13 (this number includes 3 championships won under the name of Austria Salzburg). The Wien clubs, Rapid and Austria, remain the most successful Austrian clubs with 32 and 24 titles respectively, but in recent seasons, Salzburg challengers were Sturm Graz and LASK Linz. It’s up to you who will end Red Bulls dominance.
5. Ludogorets – Bulgarian First League
The Greens have won their first title in 2011-2012, and they haven’t lost it since. 8 consecutive titles for Ludogorets mean they are coming close to CSKA Sofia’s record of 9 consecutive titles won in the 50s and 60s. Speaking of CSKA, they are the runner-up of the previous 3 seasons, so they should be the first choice for anyone who wants to take up this challenge.
Levski Sofia should be the second best option, but if you want the Bulgarian title to stay outside the capital of Sofia, Beroe Stara Zagora, Botev Plovdiv or Cherno More Varna could make for a fun and challenging save.
