Chelsea
• League: English Premier Division
• Honours: 6 First Division titles, 8 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 1 European Cups, 2 Europa Leagues
• Notable players: N’Golo Kante, Cesar Azpilicueta, Jorginho
• FM 20 Transfer budget: £120 million
It may come as a surprise to see Chelsea on top of the list with the biggest transfer budget at the start of the game but bear in mind that the club is under a transfer embargo and is still one of the top clubs in the world despite spending lesser than some of the others in the list in recent seasons. Cheslea also have Champion’s League this season as a result of finishing 3rd in 2018-2019 and this no doubt has had an effect in their increased transfer budget this season.
Liverpool
• League: English Premier Division
• Honours: 18 First Division titles, 7 FA Cups, 8 League Cups, 6 European Cups, 3 Europa Leagues
• Notable players: Virgil Van Dijk, Mohammad Salah, Sadio Mane
• FM 20 Transfer budget: £102 million
One of the most popular choices in FM 2020 and one of the most supported clubs in the world, Liverpool fell agonisingly close of their first Premier League title since 1992 last season. However, their champion’s league triumph and their recent strong showings in the league make them one of the likely candidates to win the title and their transfer budget is also a reflection of this with the board giving a huge £102m transfer budget for any manager who is taking over.
Manchester United
• League: English Premier Division
• Honours: 20 First Division titles, 12 FA Cups, 5 League Cups, 3 European Cups, 1 Europa Leagues, 1 Club World Cup
• Notable players: Harry Maguire, Marcus Rashford, Paul Pogba
• FM 20 Transfer budget: £100 million
Arguably the biggest club in the world in terms of the number of fans, Man Utd is likely to be a favourite in FM2020 just like all the previous versions. Utd may have fallen down the pecking order in terms of being a title contender in recent years but that doesn’t mean that the board is determined to turn that around. The transfer budget when you take over is a very high £100m should be the right platform to strengthen any weak area if required.

Real Madrid
• League: Spanish La Liga
• Honours: 33 La Liga titles, 19 Copa del Reys, 13 European Cups, 2 Europa Leagues, 4 Club World Cups
• Notable players: Eden Hazard, Toni Kroos, Sergio Ramos
• FM 20 Transfer budget: £51.6 million
One of the biggest clubs in the world, Real Madrid are arguably the best team in the Champion’s League at least in this decade. The La Liga giant has however been under the shadow of rival Barcelona in the Spanish league and a £52m transfer budget for any manager who is taking over will be a nice boost to their plethora of stars and can help bolster any weak spot in the squad. Real Madrid is also the only non-English team on the list.
Manchester City
• League: English Premier Division
• Honours: 6 First Division titles, 6 FA Cups, 6 League Cups
• Notable players: Kevin De Bruyne, Sergio kun Aguero, Raheem Sterling
• FM 20 Transfer budget: £44 million
The derby rivals of Man Utd and the defending Champions of the English Premier league already boast of one of the strongest squad of players. They have plenty of star power in their lineup and are one of the favourites for the Premier League title in the 2019 season as well. It is a dream scenario for any manager taking over to manage such an assortment of stars and the board also offers a good transfer budget of £44m. There are quite a few injuries in the squad and the team could do with a few backups for these positions.
