People like Pepjin Lijnders and Peter Krawietz, and previously Zeljko Buvac, have been essential in the success that Klopp has brought to Mainz, Borussia Dortmund, and now Liverpool. So, a manager is only as good as the backroom staff that works with him. And in Football Manager 2020, it’s no different.
But who should you hire as an Assistant Manager? Who would make your ideal number two?
Zeljko Buvac
Mentioned above, the Bosnian mastermind now serves as Director of Football at FC Dynamo Moscow. Still, he’s attainable as a number two if you really push for it. He’s got tremendous coaching stats and has fantastic ratings for tactical awareness. This means leaving him in charge of the opposition instructions means that he can make smart in-game changes that you can learn from.
If you can prize him away from Moscow, he’s a fantastic addition to any club.

Jesus Perez
The former number two of Mauricio Pochettino, Perez makes a sublime starting place for anyone looking for a new number two. Perez makes sense as he’s a smart signing with a great knowledge of the mental side of the game. He’s also a devout worker on conditioning, making him a great pair-up with your fitness coaches.
A definite addition for higher-up clubs if you can convince him to sign on.
Peter Hermann
An excellent choice for anyone managing out in Germany. Hermann is a fantastic all-around coach, but his main features are his ability to spot a player. With 20 in Judging Player Potential, the German is a fantastic choice for anyone who is managing a side they are not too sure on each player.
Getting him to sign can be tough for smaller clubs, but Hermann is a definite improvement on most assistant managers you’ll find in the database.

Steve Round
For anyone managing a Premier League club, getting your hands on Round should be easier than first assumed. Steve Round is a top-quality coach and should be willing to join most Premier League sized clubs. He’s got a great all-around profile and should definitely make an improvement to your coaching team.
He’s good with youngsters, does well to boost the mood of your team, and can work well on developing players. Great for handling individual training regimes.
Guy Stephan
Fancy taking a pot at Ligue 1 and want someone who knows the scene? Then few come more prepared than Guy Stephan. The Frenchman is an experienced pro and has great all-around stats. Definitely, someone, you should look to get in as part of your team if you are looking for someone who you can trust to offer a wise opinion on each player in your team.
Also great for helping you out with your daily tactical adjustments given his excellent knowledge of other French teams.
