Arguably, one of the greatest managers in world football, Sir Alex Ferguson, is a household name to all Football Manager players. Naturally, a challenge emulating his success is a must.
So why not challenge ourselves to emulate/compete against his achievements and pit ourselves against his illustrious career.Unlike the FM Pentagon challenge & Journeyman challenge, this will require you to stay in 1 club and build a dynasty.
So, here is how you go about the Alex Ferguson challenge.
Sir Alex took over Man Utd on Nov 6th 1986, so you will holiday yourself till this date and take over the club which is 2nd bottom in the league.
The first challenge is to save the club from relegation and then to emulate Sir Alex’s achievements.
Here is a list of what he has achieved with Man Utd;
- Win a domestic cup within 4 seasons - Ferguson won his first cup vs Crystal Palace in 89/90.
- Win a league title within 7 seasons - Ferguson won his first title in 92/93.
- Win a league and cup double within 8 seasons - Ferguson won his first double with United in 93-94.
- Win a league, cup and Champions League within 13 seasons- Ferguson won the infamous treble in 98/99

Of course, there are a few rules to follow when you take up this Football Manager challenge.
- No usage of the in-game editor
- Promote as many youth players as you can and have a minimum of 1 player promoted from the youth academy in every single matchday squad. (Giggs, Beckham, Neville, Scholes were all part of the youth system and went on to become legends at the club)
- No buying or selling from/to your direct rival.
- Promote at least 1 new player to the youth academy to the senior team every single season.
Additionally, you can make your former players a part of your backroom staff too.
