Here is our pick of 3 exciting Football Manager 2021 teams to manage in the
Scottish Premiership League.
With the FM21 release date around the corner, fans are eager to manage their favourite sides. However, managing some teams pose more of an interesting challenge to many managers. Here is our pick of 3 exciting teams to manage in the Scottish League.
1. Celtic
2019-2020 League Position: 1
Celtic are one of the biggest football clubs in Scotland and have won the Scottish top division 51 times. They are also one of the 5 clubs in the world to win over 100 trophies and have won the Scottish Premiership 9 times consecutively. Their dominance in Scottish football is cemented by the fact that they are one of the only clubs from the league to qualify for Champion’s League football every now and then.
However, Celtic are a big fish in a small pond with Scottish Championship not really up to the standard of some of the other top leagues in Europe. For any potential FM21 Managers taking over, their task is cut out to first keep their fierce Derby rivals Rangers at bay. Under the management of Steven Gerrard, Rangers seem to have closed the gap a bit in terms of competition and in fact have begun the 2020 season unbeaten in real life. The managers also need to concentrate on stabilizing Celtic in the Champion’s League and ensure that the club is not just there to make up the numbers. The squad does boast of decent talent in their ranks and have access to the best Scottish players available but to take Celtic close to the top of European football, managers require time, patience and a lot of luck.
2. Rangers
2019-2020 League Position: 2
The 2nd team on the list are Rangers. They are the perennial rivals of Celtic and are one of the most decorated football clubs in Scotland and in the world. They are the 2nd most successful football club in the world in terms of trophies won and have a crazy fan following around the world.
Rangers in the past were getting the edge over Celtic but the balance has tipped in the recent years. Having gone into administration, Rangers were demoted to the lower leagues and had to work their way up to the Scottish Premiership once again. As a result, Rangers do not have a Scottish Premiership title since 2011 and are desperate to get a hold of the league once again. For any potential FM2021 Manager taking over, the first task will be to dethrone Celtic as the most dominant club in Scotland. Rangers have secured Europa League qualification over the last 2 seasons but have not done too well in the league, something the taking over manager should be able to work on and improve. In terms of squad depth and quality, Rangers are right up there with Celtic but fall short of the bigger European standards. With time and patience, a good manager can definitely make them a competitive side in European football.
3. Aberdeen
2019-2020 League Position: 4
Our final pick from the Scottish League is Aberdeen. Aberdeen is considered by many as one of the better teams in the league and have never been relegated from the top flight of Scottish Football and are a steady club. Most of the club’s glory days have come in the past and the club is currently always under the shadow of Celtic & Rangers.
For any potential FM Managers taking over, the first task is to build a competitive squad and compete with the big 2 in Scotland. Aberdeen do have a decent squad for the Scottish league but can certainly make do with reinforcements. The MLS side Atalanta United have a strategic alliance with the club since Nov 2019 and a few fans believe that this could help improve the club's stature and help them compete better. There is also the legacy of Sir Alex Ferguson who managed Aberdeen in his early days making it for enticing for FM managers who want to follow in the legend’s footsteps and build a similar career in the game.
