board requirements, tactics, key players, youth prospects and potential
transfers in FM21.
Here is a brief analysis of the West Ham squad, their club structure, the relationship any potential managers will have with the board, expectations and possible tactics any FM2021 player can use.
About West Ham
West Ham or hammers as they are belovedly called are a mid-table Premier League club based out of London. The hammers are one of the few teams that have never gone below the 2nd tier of English football since the club started functioning. In the PL Era, West Ham have never won silverware and are overshadowed by their more popular London neighbours.
Board Requirements
West Ham despite spending heftily had a pretty torrid time in the PL in 2019-2020 barely surviving relegation and finishing a disappointing 16th. The board requirements once you take over will be;
2. Making the 5th round of the FA Cup
3. Making the 4th round of the Carabao EFL Cup
Since there have been heavy investments, the board also require you to play an attacking brand of football. Concentrate on signing high reputation or young players for the future and use the club’s academy to develop players.
Hammers have decent training facilities and a stable youth setup which could churn out the occasional gem. You should go about trying to improve these as soon as you can, once you take over.

Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
The hammers have made quite a few smart purchases recently and have a strong squad.
There are quite a few tactical setups you could deploy with West Ham, however, for their current squad of players, the strongest would be the fluid counter-attack. You can opt for a vertical tiki-taka for easy home games but keep in mind that West Ham are a team that like to play on the break.
A 4-2-3-1 is the best formation of West Ham and you can alternate the player mindsets depending on the difficulty of the game. A 4-1-4-1 is also not a bad way to set up.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 4-2-3-1 formation is as follows;
Lukasz Fabianski as a sweeper keeper.
Vladimir Coufal & Aaron Creswell as the full-backs, both are generally attacking full backs with Creswell having a high crossing ability.
Issa Diop & Angelo Ogbonna playing as the 2 centre backs.
Declan Rice playing as the holding midfielder and Tomas Soucek playing alongside him as a box to box midfielder.
Said Benrahma & Jarrod Bowen will be your 2 wingers, with Benrahma operating as an inside forward and Bowen as an inverted winger.
Pablo Fornals playing as the central attacking midfielder.
Michail Antonio as the lone forward in a pressing forward role.
Alternatively, when you change to a 3 at the back formation by pushing Creswell to a LCB role and deploying Masauku as a wing-back.
