Let's look at what The Super League will mean for us Football Manager players and our favourite football management simulation developers. Also,
we list a custom database that includes the upcoming competition for you to
try out in FM21.
What is The Super League?
Let's first summarise what exactly happened this weekend. Namely, the most popular clubs in Europe, more precisely twelve of them, have announced that they are starting their closed elite league from which they will not be able to drop out regardless of their results, and this rule will last as long as 23 years.
The clubs in question that are the founders of The Super League are; Real Madrid, Barcelona, Atletico Madrid, Juventus, Inter, Milan, Manchester United, Manchester City, Chelsea, Tottenham and Arsenal. There have been reports that three more clubs are involved in the establishment of the league, but this has not yet been confirmed. As far as is known, for now, the German giants Bayern and Borussia Dortmund rejected to be included in the project, as well as the French champions PSG.
The founding fathers justify founding this elite league because of the consequences the corona crisis had on their clubs. More precisely, the huge losses they have suffered in terms of money. The president of Real Madrid, Florentino Perez, who was also voted President of The Super League, said that his club sustained losses of 400 million Euros, the amount that JPMorgan Chase, the main sponsor of the future competition, will pay to the founding clubs of this elite competition.
Furthermore, the main reasons for founding this elite league are, according to club owners, less interest in football as a sport of the younger generations to come, mostly the so-called Generation Z, who was born after 1996. It is even stated that it is planned to reduce the time of football matches and offer packages to young people to watch the last 15 minutes of football matches. However, these are only rumours so far.
It is also noted that clubs that would play in this elite league out of solidarity would stop buying players from each other and that they would introduce a salary cap that should not exceed 55 per cent of the profits that clubs make.
How will this affect future Football Manager games?
Now let's look at what the developers of Football Manager had to say about all this. We take a look at Twitter, where the official FM profile posted the well-known meme "This is fine", alluding that the studio will definitely tackle the problem despite all these huge changes ahead of us.
Let's not forget that the game creators have already responded to a very controversial future competition in their own way in the game. Namely, at the upcoming World Cup to be held in Qatar in 2022, the creators reacted and programmed the game in such a way that just before the most controversial World Cup, FIFA decides to cancel and hold the competition in another country.
Of course, since this World Cup is scheduled for 2022, you can easily insert such scenarios. However, The Super League and its founders have announced that the competition itself will take place this year in August. Therefore, we are of the opinion that FM creators will have to include this competition at the release date of FM2022, which we expect to be in mid-November, although due to the difficult situation due to the corona crisis, the release of the game could be delayed, however, this remains to be seen.
