Football Manager 2022 Chelsa tactic and team guide. Club culture and board
requirements, tactics, key players, youth prospects and potential transfers
in FM22.
Here is a brief analysis of the Chelsea squad, their club structure, relationship any potential managers will have with the board, expectations and possible tactics any FM22 manager can use.
About the club
Firstly, Chelsea are a champion side with very high expectations and ambitions. They are the only English team to have won the English Premier League, UEFA Champions League and the Europa League in the last decade. With dominance come expectations, and the Chelsea board and owner expect big things from any manager.
Chelsea are the defending champions of the UEFA champion's league, and the board requirements, once you take over, will be;
⦁ Challenge for the PL title
⦁ Reach the Semi-final of the Champion's league.
⦁ Reach the final of the FA Cup.
⦁ Win the club world championship
Additionally, the board requires you to play attacking possession-based football, sign high reputation players, sign players under 23 for the club's future and develop youngsters using the club's academy.
The club are also blessed with excellent training facilities and a very solid youth setup that churns out league ready players every season. There is a lot of room for development with the stadium, too, as it has comparatively a small capacity for the club of the stature of Chelsea.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
Chelsea have had a big transfer window and have completed the signing of Romelu Lukaku and have acquired Saul Niguez on loan.
You could deploy quite a few tactical setups with Chelsea; however, the best-suited ones will be a gegenpress or a vertical tiki-taka. This should provide the fast-paced attacking football the board demands and could make use of all the fine attacking talent at your disposal. However, against quality attacks or tough away games, one could go with a fluid counterattack or wing play.
A 5-2-2-1 is the best-suited tactic for the current squad of players, however, it is a very versatile squad, and you can easily play a 4-3-3 or a 4-2-3-1 or even a 3-5-2 tactic, depending on your preference.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 5-2-2-1 formation is as follows;
Reece James & Ben Chilwell as the 2 wingbacks, they are naturally attacking players who will push much higher up the pitch.
Antonio Rudiger, Thiago Silva & Cesar Azpilicueta as the 3 centre backs. Rudiger & Azpilicueta to play as wide centre backs and Silva as a ball-playing defender.
Kante and Jorginho as the 2 central midfielders. The former plays as a box to box midfielder, and the latter playing as a deep playmaker in defence duty.
Mason Mount & Kai Havertz as the 2 attacking midfielders given a free role to roam freely. Havertz to be played as an attacking playmaker and Mount as an attacking midfielder.
Romelu Lukaku as a lone striker in a Pressing forward role.
As suggested, you can play multiple formations and tactics as this is a very versatile and powerful squad.
