About Arsenal
Arsenal are one of the most popular clubs that ply their trade in England. Arsenal have won 13 league titles, a record 14 FA Cups, 16 community shield titles and 2 league cups. They are the only English team to never have been relegated from top tier football since the league’s inception in 1919.
Arsenal had a dismal 2020-2021 season finishing 8th in the league table. Arsenal have not qualified for any European competitions for the 2021-2022 season which maybe a blessing in disguise to acquire good league position. The board requirements once you take over will be,
· A top 6 league finish (automatic qualification to the Europa League)
· A QF < finish in the FA cup
Additionally, the manager will be required to play attacking entertaining football and sign players under 18 for the future.
The club are also blessed with excellent training facilities and a very solid youth setup that churns out league ready players every season. The 60k Capacity Emirates stadium could be made into a fortress with the right approach and under the right manager.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
The Arsenal squad are a blend of young players and seasoned campaigners with most of their players having the potential to be global stars.
There are quite a few tactical setups you could deploy with Arsenal, however, the best-suited ones will be controlled possession/vertical Tiki Taka. This should provide the fast-paced attacking football that the fans demand and could make use of all the fine attacking talent at your disposal. However, against quality attacks or tough away games, one could go with a fluid counter attack.
A 4-2-3-1 is the ideal formation for Arsenal. A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 4-3-2-1 formation is as follows;
Aaron Ramsdale as a sweeper keeper
Gabriel & Ben White as the 2 Ball Playing central defenders.
Kieran Tierney as a left wing back & Takehiro Tomiyasu as the right full back. Tierney should be encouraged to go forward a lot more and it will be well suited for managers to make use of his attacking prowess.
Granit Xhaka to be deployed as a deep playmaker with defence duty, Thomas Partey as a box to box midfielder
Martin Odegaard as an attacking midfielder in the No10 role.
Aubameyang on the left wing as an inside forward with instructions to stay narrow, Saka as an inverted winger from the right.
Alexander Lacazette as a lone forward in a Pressing Forward or a Deep Lying Forward role.
Alternatively, you can lineup in a 4-3-3 to shore up the midfield or a 3 defender formation if you wish to be more compact at the back.
Although Aubameyang did not have the best of 2021, he is still one of the best strikers in the world and can turn any game on its head with his attacking prowess.
Thomas Partey
Largely injured during his debut season, Partey may not have had the best starts to his PL career. He however remains as one of the best players in his position and is vital for Arsenal's campaign.
Tierney is considered amongst the best fullbacks in the league and is one of the most important players at the club. He is superb in attack and very capable in defense making him the perfect player for his position.
Martin Odegaard
After a mixed loan spell, Arsenal have confirmed the signing of the attacking midfielder this season. The talented creator maybe the missing spark that Arsenal needs to turn around their lack of goals.
Youth Prospects
1. Bukayo Saka
Saka is considered by many to be one of the top young talents in England. He is already an important player for club and country and with time could become one of the best ever players to play in an Arsenal shirt.
2. Folarin Balogun
Balogun is on the cusp of breaking into the first team and is touted to be a natural goalscorer who can excel in the league. With the right mentorship, he could become a fearsome goal threat for Arsenal.
3. Albert Sambi-Lokonga
The defensive midfielder is a new signing at Arsenal and represents quality in midfield. He could be a long term solution to Arsenal's problems in midfield.
Weaknesses
· There is a lack of squad depth and players outside the first team may not be upto the required quality.
· This is overall a very young squad and could take a few seasons for the youngsters to hit their prime.
