board requirements, tactics, key players, youth prospects and potential
transfers in FM22.
Here is a brief analysis of the Spurs squad, their club structure, relationship any potential managers will have with the board, expectations and possible tactics any FM22 manager can use.
About Tottenham
Spurs are a London club that have done consistently well since the inception of the English Premier League in 1992. Despite a shortage of trophies, Spurs are one of the more consistent sides in the Premier League who are in and around the European positions in the last decade.
Spurs had a disappointing 2020-2021 season finishing 7th in the league and only qualifying for the UEFA Conference league. The board requirements once you take over will be,
· Reach the final of the conference league.
· At least reach the semi-final of the FA cup.
The Spurs board will require the manager to play attacking entertaining football whilst retaining a lot of possession, sign younger players for the future and develop players using the club's youth system.
Spurs recently moved into a new stadium and have excellent training facilities available at their disposal. This should definitely help their young players in reaching their potential. They also have a decent youth set up with them producing the occasional star.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
The current Spurs squad has a variety of talent, especially in the attacking department. What is even more impressive is that their stars are relatively young in age, so should be able to hold on to them, you can easily build an empire around them. However, with no silverware, some of the players are unhappy at the club and could be the subject of transfers.
There are quite a few tactical setups you could deploy with Spurs, however, the best-suited ones will be vertical Tiki Taka. This should provide the fast-paced attacking football that the board demands and could make use of all the fine attacking talent at your disposal. However, against quality attacks or tough away games, one could go with a fluid counter attack formation or wing play.
Recently Spurs have been using the 3-4-3 formation a lot and it will definitely suit their players.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 3-4-3 formation is as follows;
Emerson Royal & Sergio Reguilon as wing backs, you can increase their crossing frequency if you wish to make use of the attackers’ aerial prowess.
Eric Dier, Davinson Sanchez & Cristian Romero as the 3 centre backs with Dier & Romero playing as Ball playing defenders.
Tanguy Ndombele & Piere Emile Hojberg as the 2 central midfielders with the former as a deep playmaker and the latter as a box to box midfielder.
Son Heung Min & Lucas Moura as the 2 wide players with Son playing as an inverted winger and Moura as a winger.
Harry Kane as the solo forward in a deep lying forward role.
You can also shift to a 4 at the back and make use of players like Bergwijn & Lo Celso.
Harry Kane is arguably one of the best strikers in the world and is a natural finisher who is ever hungry for goals. Keep him fit and he will aid your cause with 20+ goals every season.
Son Heung Min
One of the most important players in the squad, Son has double-digit goals in each of his last 5 PL seasons. His contribution from the wings will be crucial to achieving favourable results.
Pierre Emile Hojberg
The Danish central midfielder is versatile and has been performing to a very high standard since joining Spurs.
Reguilon is one of the best players in his position. He is a natural at crossing the ball and excels on the attacking third of the pitch. His partnership with Kane & Son could shape the season for managers taking over Spurs.
