Let's take a look at who we think are FM22 best players to sign on the Winter Update database, now let us take a look at the defenders.
The Football Manager 2022 Winter Update is now upon us, and we have some pretty awesome changes in the database. To help you build a new team in a new save on the updated database, we have put together a list of what we consider to be the best Defenders in this new edition of the FM22 database. So, what are the best Defenders that you could sign ahead of the 2021-22 season?
Who should you be on the lookout for if you want to transform your team and fulfil the dreams of your supporters?
Josko Gvardiol – RB Leipzig
He could legitimately become one of the best defenders in the entire database. Technically sound, relatively pacey, decent in the air, and a good reader of the game for his age. Gvardiol really does bring a happy and balanced blend of attributes to the table. A proper modern defender who would be a great investment for any team looking for high-class defensive options.
Nuno Mendes – PSG
Definitely a full-back we would recommend you look to if you need to add extra pace to your team. Suitable as a wing-back or as a full-back, he is a good choice if you need someone who can cross, who can run, and who can track back. Young enough to improve on some of his mental attributes, too, making him a great all-rounder within a few short years.
Wesley Fofana – Leicester City
He is probably only affordable for the elite, but if Leicester have a poor first season he should hopefully become available to sign. Definitely one to try and pick-up if you are looking for a young defender who could become part of a UEFA Champions League winning dynasty. He would cost a top-bracket price, but he would be worth every penny that you pay.
Tino Livramento – Southampton
There is no doubting he has some rough edges, not least when it comes to concentration and his positioning. However, get him games by the second season after he develops at Southampton and you should have nothing to worry about.
His natural pace and his impressive technique, as well as the fact he can play in any of the three main defensive spots, makes Livramento an excellent investment for any team, particularly those in England.
Nnamdi Collins – Borussia Dortmund
Though he is a rough edge at the start of the game, it would only take a season or two to smooth Collins out into being a genuine top class operator. He is the kind of high-class defender that you should definitely look towards if you want a player who you just know can grow mentally. His main limits come from concentration and game reading, but as a teenager that will only improve. His technical and physical stats make Collins more than worth the expected fee that you will pay.
Felix Agu – Werder Bremen
Her has obvious potential, and that matches up with his excellent pace and his crossing ability. Add in the fact that he can play both sides, and there is a reason why so many Bundesliga managers make Agu a potential signing early on. Definitely one to think about if you want a player who can contribute at Bundesliga level from the start, but has the potential to develop into a player who could potentially reach Germany national team squads.
