Football Manager 2022 Newcastle United tactic and team guide. Club culture
and board requirements, tactics, key players, youth prospects and potential
transfers in FM22.
Here is a brief analysis of the Newcastle squad, their club structure, relationship any potential managers will have with the board, expectations and possible tactics any FM 22 manager can use.
About Newcastle United
Newcastle are a club rich in history. They have spent a staggering 88 seasons in England’s top-flight football. Newcastle, since the 2000s, have been through several ups and downs and have even been relegated from the PL twice. After an exciting takeover from Saudi Arabian Public Investment Fund, Newcastle are now amongst the richest clubs in world football and are expected to be amongst the top clubs very soon.
Newcastle United finished a respectable 12th in the 2020-2021 season despite being one of the favourites to get relegated. Since the game reflects the Saudi takeover, transfer funds available will be at an all-time high but also the expectations of the board.
· Finish in the top half of the Premier League.
· Make the QF of the FA Cup.
· Making the QF of the EFL Carabao Cup
You will be required to sign high reputation players by the new board, but the funds will be pumped in non-stop.
The club has decent training facilities but a mediocre youth setup. This should also be improved to take the club to greater heights.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
Wing play or a fluid counter-attacking style of football are two of the tactics that bode well for the squad you are provided with, and my suggestion would be to go with either of those. Newcastle do not have the players to play any sort of possession-based football.
A 4-3-3 formation best suits the players available, but any manager taking over the club will obviously go hard in the transfer market with the sort of funds available, so the tactic can be altered based on the incoming signings.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 4-3-3 formation is as follows;
Martin Dubravka as a regular keeper
Fabian Schar & Jamal Lascelles as the 2 central defenders. Schar can be played as a Ball Playing Defender.
Jamal Lewis & Javier Manquillo as your 2 wingbacks with increased crossing instructions.
Isaac Hayden, Joe Willock & Sean Longstaff as the 3 midfielders. Hayden to be played as a ball winning defensive midfielder, Longstaff as a box to box midfielder and Willock as an attacking playmaker.
Miguel Almiron & Allan Saint-Maximin as your 2 wide midfielders. They are a few of the creative players in your squad.
Callum Wilson as the lone striker in a pressing forward role.
If you’re chasing goals, you can opt to play an additional striker in Joelington or use Ryan Fraser from the bench.
Wilson is an accomplished forward who is clinical in front of goal. His goals can help shape the season at the club.
Miguel Almiron
Miguel Almiron is one of the very few creative players in the squad. The South American can create chances with his direct running and passing vision.
Allan Saint-Maximin
Allan Saint-Maximin is a very direct winger. He can create a lot of trouble for defences with his trickery and quick feet.
Youth Prospects
There are a few exciting young prospects in the ranks who have the potential to be very good players in the league. A few examples are,
Joe Willock
Willock is already an important part of the Newcastle squad. His impressive 8 league goals after just 14 games for Newcastle last season is a testimony to his ability and what he can become for the club.
Elliot Anderson
The attacking midfielder is one of the better players in the academy and could definitely have a future at the club despite the newfound riches.
Weaknesses
· The overall quality outside the first XI is very poor. The team especially lacks any creative or attacking players.
· With very few options available to play in attacking positions, you have to be very rigid with formation and tactics. Once the teams figure you out, it could be very difficult to achieve results.
· Although you have the budget to make many signings, gelling could take time, and the board’s ambitions may be too lofty.
