The Turkish Super League has been dominated by Istanbul’s big three, who have won 57 of the 62 titles between them: Galatasaray (22), Fenerbahçe (19), and Besiktas (16). Trying to wrestle the stranglehold away from Istanbul’s giants will be some challenge. This list will give you some ideas of clubs to take over in Turkey.

Trabzonspor

Trabzonspor are Turkey’s most successful club away from Istanbul. They have a really interesting squad with experienced players like Marek Hamsik, Gervinho and Bruno Peres. Equally important is star goalkeeper Uğurcan Çakır who provides a very solid base at the back. Keeping hold of him is the key to success at Trabzonspor.

Problematically, Trabzonspor’s finances are extremely tight. Selling some of the stars may be necessary. The current squad is definitely capable of challenging the big three for the title. İstanbul Başakşehir

In recent seasons, a new pretender has been aspiring for the Turkish title. After finishing as runners up twice, İstanbul Başakşehir managed to win their first title in 2020. They even beat Manchester United for their first-ever Champions League victory. Başakşehir are becoming a force in Turkey.

Nacer Chadli and Deniz Türüç both provide great creativity on both wings. Volkan Babacan is a solid option in goal, having been the Turkish number one for a long time. Lucas Lima and Edin Visca are the heartbeat of the team. Can you keep İstanbul Başakşehir at the top table?

Altinordu

Altinordu are an extremely interesting club in the mould of Chivas (Mexican players only) and Athletic Club (Basque players only) because they only field Turkish players. Playing in the Turkish second division team, Altinordu historically has had the restriction in which only domestic players aged between 18 and 25 can play for the club. This means that you’ll be forced to use and develop the club’s youth system in order to create a talented young first team. The likes of Cengiz Ünder and Çağlar Söyüncü have been developed by the club.

Altinordu already have excellent training and youth facilities, so this should help you in your push for promotion to the Super League and to eventually take on the might of Galatasaray, Besiktas, and Fenerbahce. Your objective should be to try to become only the sixth Turkish team to win the league title.
