About FC Red Bull Salzburg
FC Red Bull Salzburg is an Austrian professional football club based in Wals-Siezenheim, that competes in the Austrian Bundesliga, the top flight of Austrian Football. Their home ground is the Red Bull Arena. Due to sponsorship restrictions, the club is known as FC Salzburg and wears a modified crest when playing in UEFA competitions. The club was known as SV Austria Salzburg, and had several sponsored names, before being bought by Red Bull GmbH in 2005 who renamed the club and changed its colours from its traditional violet and white to red and white. The change resulted in some of the team's fans forming a new club, SV Austria Salzburg.
Founded in 1933, the club won its first Bundesliga title in 1994, which was the first of three in the span of four seasons which also saw them reach the 1994 UEFA Cup final. Although Salzburg rank only third as the most crowned team in Austria, they have dominated Austrian football over the last decade winning the league title 9 times out of the last 10 seasons.
Salzburg are in the champion's league qualification round, and the board requirements, once you take over, will be;
· Win the Austrian Bundesliga.
· Qualify for the group stages of the UCL.
· Reach the final of the Austrian FA Cup.
Additionally, the board have a lot of requirements for the incoming manager. They want you to play high tempo, attacking, entertaining, pressing & possession-based football. The board also emphasizes the need to sign younger players for the first team, with special preference given to players from Ghana or Mali.
Salzburg have the best training facilities in Austria and of the best youth recruitment and academies in the world.
Squad, Formation and Tactical Style
Salzburg are a team that love to attack and take the attack to most teams. They like playing a fast tempo game and overload their midfielders and strikers to get goals. A vertical tiki-taka or the gegenpress is the best suited tactic for their set of players. This also helps satisfy the board's vision of how the team needs to play.
A 4-3-2-1 is how they line up in real life and is probably the best-suited formation for their squad of players. This will let you overload the box in attack and help them sustain the pressure. Alternatively, you can also use a 4-4-2 or a 4-3-3 if you wish to control the midfield better.
A rough example of what your line-up would look like in a 4-2-3-1 formation is as follows;
Philipp Kohn as a sweeper keeper.
Maximilian Wober & Oumar Solet are the 2 central ball-playing defenders.
Andreas Ulmer & Rasmus Kristensen as the 2 wing backs, both should be instructed to push further forward
Zlatko Januzovic to be played as a deep playmaker on defence duty, while Nicolas Capaldo is to be played as a box-to-box midfielder.
Brenden Aaronson to be played as a No10 in an attacking midfielder role.
Noah Okafor & Karim Adeyemi to be played as the wingers, with Adeyemi playing as an inside forward and Okafor playing as an inverted winger.
Benjamin Sesko as the lone forward in a pressing forward role.
Alternatively, you can go with a 4-4-2 and play Adeyemi as a striker alongside Sesko.
The Danish right-back is extremely versatile on the pitch and is an elite crosser. He will be contributing with a lot of assists under the right tactics.
Zlatko Januzovic
In a team filled with young blood, Januzovic provides the much-needed experience. He is the vice-captain of the club and is a master at set-pieces.
Andreas Ulmer
The veteran Austrian is the club captain and a leader on and off the pitch. His experience and ability to marshall the young team is a very underrated attribute.
Youth Prospects
Karim Adeyemi
One of the most popular wonderkids in the game, Adeyemi, has the potential to become a top goalscorer for most sides.
Benjamin Sesko
The Slovenian forward is also one of the most transferred wonderkids in the game. Given time he can easily become amongst the best and is already an important player for Salzburg.
Oumar Solet
