For these ten clubs, we believe that they will provide you with the most
interesting save on this year's edition of the game, FM23.
Some of us are looking for an additional challenge when choosing a club to manage in the game. Whether it's a club that has been kicked out of the league, maybe it's bankrupt, or it's a smaller club that shows potential for a lot more. This is our list of ten clubs that could give you the most interesting save this year on Football Manager 2023.
1. Wisla Krakow
Wisla Krakow are Poland’s fourth most successful teams but times have been tougher recently. Wisla now find themselves in the second tier after being relegated last season. Interestingly, not only does former Dortmund man Jakub Blaszczykowski play in midfield, but he’s also a part owner of the club. I think we know who you need to put on penalties!
2. AS Nancy
Nancy are a French club with a proud history, yet they will take part in the third tier this season. Nancy should be fighting to bounce back up the leagues as they have a rich chairman and also a superb youth system. Its most famous graduate was Michel Platini. Using the excellent facilities, can you get the Alsace Lorraine based team to where they want to be?
3. FC Liege
FC Liege are Belgium’s fourth oldest side. Currently, they play in the third tier. Liege have an infamous place in footballing history. In 1990, Liege refused to release Jean-Marc Bosman. This led to the Bosman ruling, which changed how football is run today and gave players considerably more power. It would be ironic to manage FC Liege, signing players only on free transfers and leading the old Belgian side to success.
4. Bordeaux
Bordeaux won Ligue Un as recently as 2009, yet the club has been through a financial nightmare in recent years. This summer, Bordeaux were relegated two divisions to the third tier, but on appeal, the French FA decided to relegate them to the Championnat. One of Ligue Un’s stalwarts, Bordeaux's surprise relegation makes them an excellent side to take over on FM23.
5. Altinordu
One of the most intriguing teams to manage on Football Manager are Turkish second-tier side Altinordu. Similar to Athletic Club in Spain and Chivas in Mexico, Altinordu can only sign Turkish players. The likes of Cengiz Under and Caglar Soyuncu have come through the club’s youth system. Can you develop many more and lead Altinordu to success in Turkey and beyond?

6. FC Kaiserslautern
Founder members of the Bundesliga, Kaiserslautern uniquely won the league the season after being promoted back in 1998. Now, having been promoted from 3. Liga last time around, Kaiserslautern are back in the second tier. Can you emulate The Red Devils of over two decades ago by winning both leagues back-to-back?
7. Palermo
After going through significant financial troubles, Palermo found themselves down the leagues. Last they were promoted from the Serie C through the extremely difficult playoffs system. Now back in the second tier, Palermo will be looking to get back to their successes from the early 2000s. Recently, the club became part of the City Football Group, which could help in the promotion push. Palermo are a fun club to manage with lots of upward potential.
8. Os Belenenses (3rd tier)
Os Belenenses are one of only five clubs to have won Portugal’s top league, which they won way back in 1946. After a financial crisis, the club splits into two separate teams: Belenenses in the top tier and Os Belenese way down the sixth tier, Os Belenenses kept the history and titles. Can you lead them past their rivals and the Big Three to silverware again?
9. Union Berlin
In recent times, Union Berlin have significantly overachieved in the Bundesliga. Despite having one of the smaller budgets in the league, Union Berlin have been giving the people of the German capital plenty to shout about. Union will take part in the Europa League this year. Managing Union will be a great save in FM23 as they are a side with plenty of growth potential.
10. Dinamo Bucureşti
Romanian side Dinamo Bucureşti are another example of a side that were used to success but trophies have been harder to come by in recent times. The club has been through its share of financial difficulties as well. To make matters worse, Dinamo were relegated for the first time in their history last season. All these factors make Dinamo a fantastic side to manage on FM23. Can you right the sinking ship?
