Looking to build the next generation of English stars in Football Manager 2023? Use this list to make sure you are buying the brightest stars of tomorrow!
Whisper it quietly, but England might be going through a bit of a ‘golden generation’ at the moment. The English national team is loaded with quality in most positions. And for the positions where things look a little light? There are definitely some interesting young prospects coming through. While some of the names on this list are probably too young to play with the senior national teams current crop anytime soon, they all have excellent potential. Here, then, are five English wonderkids in Football Manager 2023.
1. Charlie Setford – GK, Ajax
Given both are only 18 and 16, respectively, it will take some time. You would, though, have some truly awesome talent on your hands if you can get either of these two into the first-team. Charlie is the one with the higher potential it looks like, but Tommy might be worth having as part of your GK stable as well. If you are a big dog in England, both Steford’s should be easily attainable.
2. Charlie Cresswell – CB, Leeds
He has good attributes overall, but it is his surprisingly high mental stats that stand out. For one so young, Cresswell carries himself with intelligence and vigour. He is definitely a player that you could build around to an extent, especially if you stay at Leeds. He has good physical attributes and isn’t awful on the ball by any means, too, so he is a modern centre-half in just about every idea of the word.
Definitely, a player that we would add to your list of English wonderkids to look at in Football Manager 2023.
3. Ishe Samuels-Smith – LB, Everton
Football Manager 2023 has many exciting young full-backs, and while Samuels-Smith might not be a guaranteed elite talent in the long-term, he definitely has many upsides. If you can work on his game and coach him properly, you could improve his low mental attributes (expected for a teenager, to be fair), and turn him into a serviceable full-back at international level. He might not have genuine elite potential, but ‘ISS’ has plenty about him for fans to like.

4. Tyler Morton - DM/CM, Liverpool
Morton has all of the attributes one might expect of a modern central midfielder. He has decent athleticism, good technical standing, and a reading of the game that goes far beyond his 19 years of age. Definitely one to keep an eye on in the future if you are looking to build a young side.
Again, he is not going to be easy to get, but in terms of potential he is very highly rated and is among the most high-potential young English players in-game.
5. Joe Gelhardt - CF, Leeds
He has obvious quality in his game, and carries a very impressive physicality. For a modern striker, especially in a pairing, he could be tremendous. He has the bulk, the strength, the pace, and the movement off the ball to really thrive at Premier League level. It might take a few years of patience, but you could easily turn Gelhardt into a player who plays for England. Who knows? He might even be the long-term successor to Harry Kane!
Which of the above young stars will you look to develop into the best-in-class in their position? All five of the above, though, offer some wonderful potential.
