Let's see which national teams that are competing at the World Cup in Qatar would be a fun international save on FM23.
One of Football Manager’s most underused and underappreciated features is international management. It can, though, be an extremely rewarding part of the game. There are many unique challenges that being national team manager can bring, from qualifying for a tournament for the first time to breaking a long trophyless spell. One of the great features in recent FMs is being able to convince players who have a second nationality to join your national team.
There are a huge number of national sides to take over on Football Manager 2023. In order to be able to take over some of them, you will need to have specific leagues added at the beginning (or during) the game. For example, if you want to manage an African team, it makes sense to have both the South African and French leagues to get more African players loaded.
This list will give you some ideas of international teams to manage on FM 2023. Can you fulfil every young football fan’s dream of lifting the World Cup?
1. England
Three Lions on a shirt,
Jules Rimet still gleaming.
Thirty years of hurt,
Never stopped me dreaming.
Those are the lyrics of the infamous “Three Lions”. Now, after 56 years, football still hasn’t come home. Last year England came as close as they ever have done by getting into the Euro 2020 final but, typically, losing on a penalty shootout to Italy.
England’s squad is extremely talented and full of world-class players. Harry Kane is the talismanic captain up front, Manchester City’s Raheem Sterling and Jack Grealish provide great creativity, and Declan Rice is the side’s heartbeat in central midfield. Jude Bellingham is the future of the Three Lions.
Getting the team to click and managing the huge expectations of the nation is extremely difficult. It has been said the job of England manager is as important as the Prime Minister. Can you cope with these lofty expectations and finally bring football home to a craving nation?

2. Belgium
This World Cup in Qatar could be the last chance for the Belgian Golden Generation. Elite players like Kevin de Bruyne and Eden Hazard are now in their thirties. The defence of Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld have plenty of experience but may now lack the legs to win a World Cup. Belgium’s side is extremely talented, and they play wonderful attacking football. Can you bring the World Cup to Brussels?

3. Senegal
Only three African sides have ever made it to the World Cup quarter-finals: Cameroon, Ghana, and Senegal. Current Africa Cup of Nations holders famously beat world champions France in the opening match of the 2002 World Cup. Getting back to those heights will be difficult but not impossible.
The Lions of Teranga have some excellent players in order to compete at the World Cup. The line is led by Bayern Munich forward Sadio Mane alongside Watford flier Ismaila Sarr. In defence, captain Kalidou Koulibaly is a rock at the back; meanwhile, Everton’s Idrissa Gana Gueye provides grit and aggressive tackling in midfield.

4. Mexico
Mexico is the country to have appeared in the most World Cups without ever actually winning the trophy. Mexico has only ever reached the WC quarter-final twice, and on both of those occasions on home soil. Interestingly Mexico were involved in the first-ever World Cup match in 1930. They lost 4-1 to France. Maybe it was an omen of things to come in the World Cup.
However, Mexico are the most successful North American national side, having won Olympic gold in 2016 and the Confederations Cup in 1999. They have also won the Gold Cup 8 times, once more than their great rivals, the USA.
In order to maintain dominance in North America and to challenge for the World Cup, Mexico have some very good players: Raul Jimenez, Hirving Lozano, Hector Herrera, and Edson Alvarez.
