Looking to build the next generation of Italian stars in Football Manager 2023? Use this wonderkids list to make sure you are buying the brightest stars of tomorrow!
Italian football is going through a minor rebuild at the moment, with the failure to qualify for the 2022 FIFA World Cup asking for introspection. The solution in the eyes of many Italian teams is to start giving young Italian players more of a shot. Well, with so many Italian wonderkids in Football Manager 2023, you could be onto something if you join the revolution. Who, though, are worth investing in. Here's our list of the top Italian wonderkids in Football Manager 2023.
1. Elia Caprile – GK, Bari
While Gianluigi Donnarumma is sure to stay as the Italian number one for most of his career, there is no doubt that Caprile is the perfect backup. While others like Alex Meret might be a good goalkeeper, Caprile has the potential to be genuinely great.
If you want to join the Italian youth movement and start bringing through the hot shots of the Italian youth sector, you should have Caprile as your #1 shot-stopper choice. He might struggle in Serie A right away, but he could easily settle into the league and become a mainstay starter within a season or two.
2. Giorgio Scalvini – CB, Atalanta
He is able to score goals, move up the pitch, create chances for others, and generally just be an excellent all-around presence. He is also a naturally gifted central defender, so you have nothing to worry about from that regard. He might be more modern and adept technically than the least crop of Italian defensive legends, but there is nothing to say that Scalvini cannot match them when it comes to defensive smarts. Given his young age, patience will be required, but it will definitely pay off.
3. Diego Coppola – CB, Verona
If you can get beyond the typically rocky early-season blips with any young defender, he could become a mainstay for years to come. Pair him up with the likes of Scalvini and/or his club colleague Caleb Okoli and you could be looking at two of the best young Italian defenders to come through in the last 20+ years. Definitely a trio worth keeping an eye on – Coppola especially.
4. Giacomo Faticanti – DM, Roma
Faticanti has a special skill set technically, and might give you immediate comparisons and reminders of someone like Marco Verratti. He has excellent all-around ability on the ball, and could easily be someone who you put a lot of faith in to run your midfield.
He has already made his Roma debut in real life and has impressed Jose Mourinho. Given the Portuguese has such a typical aversion to young talent, that is a statement in itself. For Roma supporters especially, there is a glee about how good Faticanti can become. Your challenge? Convincing the Giallorossi to sell.
5. Fabio Miretti – CM/AM, Juventus
The challenge is waiting for him to ‘fill out’ as until then you could be dealing with a youngster who spends a lot of time being knocked off the ball. Miretti, though, could easily become one of the best young midfield playmakers in Europe. If you are patient enough, he could become a player to build your entire squad around – he is that good, and has potential to be genuine world-class.
There are many young stars roaming around the fields of Italy waiting for a chance. The above five, though, might just be the cream of a very interesting crop. Who, then, will you hire?
