In this blog post, we will be introducing you to 6 exciting teams to manage
on Football Manager 2023.
These clubs, Grasshoppers, Südtirol, Cherno More Varna, Olympiacos FC, Nordsjælland, and Galatasaray, may not be the biggest names in world football, but they each offer their own unique set of challenges and opportunities for success. Whether you're looking to lead a small team to domestic glory or make a splash on the European stage, these teams provide a variety of possibilities for any manager looking to make their mark on Football Manager 2023. So let's get started and take a closer look at these fascinating clubs.
1. Grasshoppers
Grasshoppers of Zurich were one of Switzerland’s biggest teams winning the Swiss title a record 19 times, the last of which, however, came way back in 2003. Times have been more difficult for Grasshoppers as teams like Basel, Young Boys and rival FC Zurich have overtaken them in prominence. In 2019, Grasshoppers were relegated to the second tier for the first time in nearly 70 years. Now back in the Swiss Super League, the Hoppers will be looking to return to former glories as soon as possible. Unfortunately, the club’s serious financial crisis will make this save even more difficult.
2. Südtirol
Based in the Alps in Northern Italy, in a city where German is spoken more than Italian, Südtirol are a team on the up. Last year, Südtirol won the Serie C title and will now compete in Serie B for the first time in their history. The club have one of the smaller transfer budgets in Serie B, so staving off relegation will be the first aim before moving on to bigger and better things. In order to achieve these objectives, Südtirol will rely on striker Matteo Rover and creative midfielder Daniele Casiraghi.
3. Cherno More Varna
Bulgarian side Cherno More Varna have spent much of their existence in the Bulgarian top flight, but trophies haven’t come by easily. They haven’t won a top-tier title since the 1930s. Getting Cherno More to another title won’t be easy competing against teams like Ludogorets and CSKA Sofia. At least in 2015, the Sailors managed to win the Bulgarian Cup. Last season was a good year for Cherno More as they finished in 5th place. In order to help the Cherno More Varna develop, the club has excellent training and youth facilities. Use them to lead the Bulgarian side back to their former successes.
4. Olympiacos FC
Olympiacos are probably Greece’s biggest club, having won 47 league titles. After winning the Greek title again last year, Olympiacos brought in a couple of household names in former Real Madrid men Marcelo and James Rodriguez. The club’s real ambitions are to go further in Europe. It has been eight years since Olympiacos reached the Champions League knockout stages. Can you become the first Greek team to reach a Champions League final since Panathinaikos lost to a Johan Cruyff inspired Ajax in 1971?
5. Nordsjælland
FC Nordsjælland play in the extremely fun Danish Superliga. Nordsjælland are one of the better teams in Denmark and have excellent youth and training facilities. The challenge will be to overtake perennial champions FC Kobenhavn and then establish Nordsjælland as a European contender.
Nordsjælland have links with African football and have managed to bring good players in for cheap and then sell them on for profit to the rest of Europe. Currently, the likes of Mohamed Diamoande, Ernest Nuamah, Adamo Nagalo, and Willy Kumado are prized assets for the club, who have been picked from The Right to Dream Academy in Ghana.
6. Galatasaray
Turkish superclub Galatasaray have had a tough few seasons. Including last year when Gala were only able to finish 13th in the league. The Istanbul giants will be looking to have a much better season this time around. Galatasaray have won the Turkish title 22 times. To lead Gala to success, the squad has some good players, including Mauro Icardi, Juan Mata, and wonderkid Yusuf Demir. With the right additions, you should be able to lead Galatasaray back to the Turkish title and be able to fight well on the continent.
