For smaller clubs looking to build a team of young talents, signing these players can be a great way to start your club's rebuild by growing with their skills or developing them to sell on for massive profits.
This list is for players who can be acquired by smaller clubs. While you might have to include promises about playing time or release clauses, signing these players can be a great way to start your club’s rebuild by growing with their skills or developing them to sell on for massive profits.
Matias Arezo
Nemanja Jovic
A right-footed winger, Nemanja Jovic is capable of contributing from either wing to a good level for a smaller club. While he may be short in stature, his trickery and fitness more than make up for any perceived shortcomings in his physicality. Creativity is his main attribute, but he can also be dangerous from long range, perfectly suited to an inverted winger role from the left.
Leon King
This tough-tackling Scottish centre-back has already made headlines in real life for his performances for Rangers’ first team. At 19 years old, Leon King has the tools to become a complete centre-back and can also provide cover at either full-back. A season in the lower leagues suits him perfectly, but he’ll quickly turn into a mainstay in your defence.
Enzo Boyomo
Currently employed by Albacete in Spain’s second tier, Enzo Boyomo is a technically gifted defender who can play both centre-back and right-back. Playing in the second tier means that basically any top-flight side in Europe can take a crack at him, even sides who are aiming for promotion. Available for around £2m, he’s arguably the biggest steal in FM23 and represents incredible value for money.
Joris Manquant
Yusuf Barasi
Ethan Laidlaw
Arguably Scotland’s best striking prospect since Kenny Miller, Ethan Laidlaw, has come through the famous Hibs academy to great acclaim. He’s quick, he’s a great finisher, and he can involve others; Laidlaw can develop into the perfect advanced forward. Definitely, one for the future; Laidlaw starts the game performing at a League 2 or League 1 level at best, but he can be tempted away from Easter Road fairly easily, as long as you have the funds to meet Hibs’ demands.
Amadou N’Diaye
Another highly promising Senegalese player, Amadou N'Diaye, has the tools to be one of the best left-backs in the world. Still plying his trade in Senegal, the promise of a quick route to one of Europe’s top leagues is more than enough to tempt this flying left back. Sign him for a Championship club, and you’ll be sorted at left back no matter what level you end up: just make sure you keep growing to stem the inevitable interest from bigger sides.

Tiago Almeida
A solid defensive right back, Tiago Almeida is one of Portugal’s most promising youngsters in FM23. Currently, at Tondela, any Championship side with a decent reputation can take a crack at bringing Almeida to England. While his attacking skills need a little work, he’s already a Premier League-level defender with the scope to become a real threat from wide areas.
Hakon Haraldsson
An Icelandic attacking behemoth and available for around £3m, Haraldsson has the skill and the vision to contribute across the entire frontline and in central midfield if need be. His pace and flair are very attractive, but what I like most about him is his high levels of determination and teamwork. To top it all off, his media handling is unflappable, which suggests his hidden attributes are also very promising. Haraldsson is a real threat in the attacking third, either creating for himself or for others, and you’ll be able to pick him up for your promotion charge fairly easily.
