Every FM, there’s a new batch of wonderkids to acquaint ourselves with. Those who choose to play with the biggest clubs in the world can have their pick of the litter, pricking up the brightest talents from the biggest leagues and cultivating them into a world-class outfit in no time. However, for those of us who play with more modest clubs, the challenge is to identify the diamonds in the rough, who can make a difference for your club without costing the earth. This article will list my favourite FM24 wonderkids whose price tag is nowhere near reflective of their potential and who will one day have the ability to launch your club to the next level.

Yerson Chacon

Starting with an FM23 favourite of mine, Yerson Chacon is a Venezuelan right-footed winger who remains a deeply undervalued wonderkid on FM24. He’ll cost around £1m, with great technical ability to start with; it’s no wonder he’s already made his debut for the Venezuelan national team. He’s already being pursued by Porto, so best to make your move early.

Andres Romero

Sticking with the Venezuelan talent for now, Romero is an incredibly gifted playmaker capable of operating anywhere across the midfield. Has also already made his debut for the Venezuelan national team, but that doesn’t drive up the cost in the way you’d expect. He’s a talent, and he’s a bargain; ideal for any save starting at a club with potential.

Miguel Monsalve

Over to Colombia, and you’ll find this absolute gem of an 18 year old midfielder. He’s great on the ball, can create in a number of ways - whether it’s crossing or carving the defence open with an impossible pass - and has the mental ability to succeed already. Miguel Monsalve is a player on the rise, and he’ll suit your growing club down to the ground. A little more expensive than some others on this list, you might have to pay up to £2.5m to bring him in, but it’s more than worth it, and you’ll sell him for a significant profit.

Ruben Iranzo

This guy is an absolute steal. Available for less than £500k from Valencia’s B side, Ruben Iranzo is a 20-year-old central defender who tackles as well as anyone on the game. Personally, I’d like him to be a little taller - he’s only 180 cm - but if that’s a dealbreaker for you, he has the tools to retrain as a DM. If his height doesn’t put you off, you’ll be able to pick up an intelligent and skilful DC for under half a million. If that’s not a bargain, I don’t know what is.

Jaime Vasquez

If you prefer more of an aerial threat from your DCs, Jaime Vazquez is the way to go. At 17, he’s in Oviedo’s reserves and has a release clause of £1.2 million - but you can get him for way cheaper than that. He seems to be more in the mould of someone like John Terry, aerially dominant and ferocious in the tackle - though also a confident passer from the back. With his tender age, you can definitely train him to develop the technical side of his game more and have the complete defender on your hands. Watch out for his pace though; he’s not suited to a high line.

Suphanat Mueanta

Everyone’s favourite Thai wonderkid makes another appearance on these lists. He’s finally made the move to Europe - specifically Belgium - so he should be popping up in most databases now. His attributes remain excellent, and at 19 years old at the start of the 23/24 season he’s got room to develop further. He’s been an FM favourite for years - and with good reason. Don’t sleep on Suphanat Mueanta.

Idan Toklomati

Idan Toklomati is a 17-year-old attacker, mostly comfortable as a striker, and what a well-rounded player he is. He can finish, he can create for others, he has respectable pace and strength for his age, and he could really be the complete package. The only part of his game I’d like to work on is his heading, but at 183cm with 13 jumping reach at the age of 17, there’s no reason this guy couldn’t be a solid target forward in the future. However you want your strikers to play, Idan Toklomati has the skills to do it, and could cost you as little as £100k.

Valentin Gomez

Saving the best til last, Valentin Gomez just might be the best player on this list - certainly the most first-team ready. A 20-year-old DC, Valentin Gomez, is the most expensive player on this list. He’ll set you back around £3m. But what a player you’re getting for that price. Great in the air, intimidating in the tackle, he’s strong, he’s fast, he has great work rate (and teamwork and leadership, captain material already). He also takes a hell of a penalty. You might not think his price tag is all that cheap, but for the player he is and the untapped potential he still has, when I tell you this guy is a bargain, I mean it.

Sniffing out cheap wonderkids on FM24 isn’t easy. Other clubs know the talent they have and want to keep their bright young talents. However, the players on this list are the exceptions to that rule, and can be lured away from their clubs for a fraction of their true value.
