We regard him as the next Igor Akinfeev, although he is not Russian but Ukrainian player. Great starting attributes do say in the favour of our comparison, but will he ever be as good as Akinfeev, let's see.
So Maxym's starting attributes are more than good, they are great, and easily he can replace any goalkeeper at any club with great ease. He has good technical abilities, such as Aerial Ability (12), Command of Area (12), Handling (13), One on Ones (13) and Reflexes (17). Also his mental attributes are fairly developed for a player at such young age. Physically he is on a level of much more experienced goalkeepers in FM 2014.
Once he develops, there is actually no weakness to his game. His Technical attributes develop nicely, especially Communication (17), which is good as goalkeepers do needed to take care of defensive line from time to time. His Mental attributes are top class, and his Physical attributes rose even more and are world class now.
Great development, and considering that the goalkeepers reach their development peak between the ages of 29 to 33 years old, Maxym still has some room to improve even further, as this already wasn't enough.
Downside regarding Maxym is Dynamo Kyiv. Ukrainian club are unwilling to enter any kind of transfer talk, and thus any transfer negotiation are practically impossible. We don't blame, a goalkeeper like Maxym is well worth some serious money. In our save, they didn't sell Koval to anyone, and finally the let him go for free once his contract expired.
All things said, Maxym Koval is definitely one of the best young goalkeepers in Football Manager 2014, and a true heir to Igor Akinfeev.
