What is AJ Auxerre’s history?

French football fans from the late 1990s and early 2000s will know the name of AJ Auxerre rather well. Les diplomates were a force in the early years of the 21st century, building a team from next to nothing under the stewardship of Guy Roux. 

However, while the Burgundy club has a rich history, they have done precious little for a long time now. The 1996 league winners and 1994 Coupe de France winners have endured a long fall from grace, though with four cups and one league they are the fifth most successful team in French history.

Restoring them, though, is a massive challenge for any FM 22 player.

 

What is AJ Auxerre’s objectives and finances?

The objective is simple – get a Ligue 1 standard of club back into the top-flight at the first time of asking. They were a truly impressive force once and were a regular in European positions for a long time. Your job is to get them back where they belong, using your impressive 18,541 seater stadium, Stade Abbé-Deschamps, to bring back the crowds and play entertaining football.

You will not have much money to spend, though, so you will probably need to focus on dealing with a prolific academy. The team at present lacks balance, so you should not be afraid to give a youngster a chance and see if they can do something of value in the first-team picture.

Your short-term aim is to get promoted, though you will be cut off from the finance available to some of the other big clubs in the league determined to get promoted again. Your job, then, is to box clever and play academy-themed, attack-minded football on a budget. Easy, right?

Who are the best players at AJ Auxerre?

The big challenge you face when it comes to building a successful football club in this part of the world stems from having the ability to get things done. To aid your cause, you have three-four players to build around: Gaetan Cahrbonnier, a talented forward; Mathias Autret, a reliable versatile attacking midfielder; Hamza Sakhi, a Moroccan midfielder with some potential; and highly-rated Brazilian defender Jubal.

Alec Georgen is a potential Ligue 1 player in the future, so try to give game-time to this promising young full-back. Outside of this selection, though, you would be highly recommended to spend as much time as you can giving game time to others like 24-year-old Aly Ndom, a midfielder, and to the talented youth duo Sonny Laiton and Lassine Sinayoko. Give these players a chance, and a tough project will be much easier to build from the ground-up.
