Here are our top 10 tips for new players of Football Manager players to help them with their FM careers.
It wasn’t always called Football Manager, it started off as Championship Manager back in 1992 and changes with the ownership led Football Manager to come out in 2004.
The detail went more in-depth, and fans would become more and more immersed in their club’s organisation, training, and transfers to degrees never before possible.
Fans of the game have been able to identify players they had not seen in real life and would then be able to use the game as a scouting tool. Understanding teams and players better in leagues they would not usually watch, this also has affected football betting with people able to predict results and player performances based on their findings in Football Manager.
Here are our top 10 tips for new gamers.
1. Choose your team wisely
When first getting started it can be a useful idea to start with a team that is familiar to you. Having some prior knowledge of the players can be useful in setting out your tactics and working out which players you need to sign before the season starts.
2. Organise your backroom staff well
Make sure there are no holes in the important parts of your coaching side. Looking at the numbers of staff members you can have and then identifying how best to cover all the areas available is vital. You don’t want 3 goalkeeper coaches and no fitness coach for example. This is also key for your younger age groups as the seasons go by to ensure your academy players are developing into future stars.
3. Assign the staff roles
Once you have your backroom staff organised, make sure they are all covering the right roles, and nothing is being forgotten. You can delegate tasks which is so helpful when you are a beginner and learning the more detailed side of the game.
4. Be patient in transfer windows
Often one of the most exciting parts of the game to many, it is important to scout players thoroughly as well as being careful on how you treat your own players who may be looking for a move or you wish to sell to raise funds for new players.
5. Make sure you understand the boards vision
Each club takes on a different vision and if your board require an attacking, possession-based style of play, you need to make sure that’s what you are adopting. Being defensive and playing on the counterattack will alienate you from the board and fans and could cost you your job!
6. Pay attention to the squad dynamics
You can identify the team leaders, influential players and understand how the squad reacts to certain players. This is especially vital if you are leaving certain players out of the first team or looking to sell someone. Check how they are respected in the dressing room; do you have a squad with just one leader?
7. Set your set piece routines
Make sure you look at the skills of your side and set accordingly while also making sure you change up the tactics every so often. Opposition teams will get used to your tactics and they will become less successful over time, so tweaks will be required.
8. Manage workloads
This may seem obvious but try not to overwork your players in training while playing regular games. They can struggle with injuries, and they can build up more if players aren’t given reasonable recovery and rest times.
9. Watch the matches as much as possible
It can be tempting to skip through the games quickly and only watch the goal highlights but watching the games can also give you some understanding of how your tactics are working. Are you conceding the same type of goal, do you counterattack well or are your side to deep in possession? You will get a real understanding of this while watching.
10. Don’t rush through the season
Take your time and enjoy it, rushing through will often mean you miss big parts of the tactics or organisation of your team which could lead to better results throughout the year. Manage your time and be aware of the busy periods for your players as well scouting regularly for new players to improve your side.
Football Manager has become more and more in-depth and there are so many different parts of the game to master. As a beginner, you are able to assign a lot of the roles to your coaching staff and this will give you the chance to play while learning.
It has taken the world by storm and new players are coming every season to try their luck at proving their knowledge of the beautiful game.
